Cultural Immersion
The College's Bachelor of Science in International Business program provides more than just knowledge of international business practices. It provides cultural immersion through study and work experience in another country.
The BSIB Program is intended to expose students to a culture with which they are not already familiar. International students participating in the program will not have the option to return to their home country for the year abroad; they will be asked to choose an alternate track.
Fluent speakers of the language spoken in the country where they plan to study abroad will need to be evaluated for language proficiency. Native speakers are required to complete either an International Affairs minor or a complete series in an additional language to fulfill BSIB curriculum requirements.
Fluency in a Foreign Language
The program prepares students to adapt to a new culture and develop practical ability in a foreign language. The College works closely with the University's Department of Modern Languages to ensure that each BSIB student is prepared to meet the challenges of global business.
Overseas Work Experience
Students are exposed to all areas of business to gain the knowledge and professional confidence to succeed in the global marketplace. Students apply their foreign language skills, cultural awareness and business knowledge in overseas classrooms and companies.
Dual Degree Option
Students choosing this option spend the first three years of study at Northeastern and complete a domestic co-op placement. They spend the remaining two years overseas at a partner institution and complete and international co-op placement. Graduates of the dual degree option receive one degree from Northeastern and another from one the partner schools.
The dual degree option is an extremely intensive program, requiring a strong commitment. It produces some of the best-prepared international business graduates in the country. Since the College's partner schools are among the most prestigious in Europe and South America, a degree from any one of them in combination with a Northeastern University degree provides a significant career advantage.
The dual degree option is not currently available to students on the International Management / East Asian Studies track.
